The True Story of Ah Q is a novella written by Lu Xun in 1921. It is now widely regarded as a masterpiece of Chinese literature. The True Story of Ah Q will be brought back to life on stage at Yihai Theater on May 17-18 under the direction of French theater director Michel Didym.
Ah Q is a Charlie Chaplin-esque vagabond. He is an uneducated, alcoholic wanderer who lacks ambition. He only works when it's absolutely necessary and spends his life doing odd jobs and living hand to mouth.
But as a conniving opportunist, he somehow finds a way of making his dreams and desires come true when the revolution erupts in China in 1911.
In his version of The True Story of Ah Q, Didym takes an experimental approach to the original story by combining traditional and contemporary elements, including shadow puppets, dance, video and multimedia.
